Sports Massage
When is it: 6 days a week, 9am to 9pm
Where is it: SMYL or SMART Stirling

Price: £40/hr
Book Now
With Sports Massage you will be visiting me with the expectation that I can help you with a niggle, postural problem or an existing injury. During the consultation phase we will discuss your problem then I will look at your posture and perform some tests, for instance strength or range of motion checks to try to determine what the problem is.

I will then treat the effected area using different soft tissue/massage or stretching techniques. There are times where this may be slightly uncomfortable. The aim of the treatment would be to reduce painful symptoms and increase range of motion, this is checked post massage when range of motion tests are repeated.

Sports massage can also be used post competition, in this case it can help to remove toxins by increasing blood supply to the area which also aids healing. If an aspect of training is beginning to cause injuries or niggles regular sports injury massage can help prevent a more severe injury and I can offer advice with respect to alternative methods of training or exercise. Sports massage is the most effective method for reducing DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) and fatigue as determined by a meta-analysis of 99 previous reviewed studies.

"THAI MASSAGE IS THE PERFECT SPORTS MASSAGE"
Simon Piers Gall, The Art of Foot Massage

Thai Foot Massage treatment concentrates on the major muscles in the lower legs and feet. It follows a set routine which covers all of the Sen lines* in the lower leg and the reflex points of the foot and as such it is of benefit to everyone. However, Thai Foot Massage is particularly good for people who partake in sports that involve running and jumping and those, like nurses, who spend a lot of their working lives on their feet.
There is an element of reflexology within the treatment which may improve the balance and health of the body's organs – in reflexology the structure of the foot is said to reflect that of the body. Overall it is said to improve health and well-being and, depending on the individual, it can either be a soothing and relaxing experience or stimulating and refreshing. Everyone gets something different out of it!
*Sen lines: equivalent to Chinese medicine Meridians or Nadi's of Ayurveda/Yoga

Taping is the application of flexible athletic tape to support muscles or joints in combination with physical therapy
This can be used during the acute phase of injury – where there is swelling or to support strain or injury e.g. shin splints, Achilles injury, plantar fasciitis. Taping can also be used to support weak and/or injured muscles allowing further therapy or participation in support without further injury.
Kinesiology taping is proven to help the natural response to inflammation by facilitating lymphatic drainage.
It can correct joint misalignment by reducing muscle tension, and also influences function and surrounding fascial tissue.
It can also be used to increase proprioception or awareness around a joint.
