The union of mind, body, breath and spirit...
Yoga involves the practice of asana (movements), pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation with the aim of reaching a point where our minds are clear and free of mental disturbance. It is good to have an understanding of the philosophy of yoga but as a practice yoga is great as a means of maintaining flexibility which in the long term reduces physical and mental stress, helps mobility by working with balance and co-ordination, speeds up recovery from injury and increases energy levels and benefits posture.

Regular Yoga Classes & Prices

​​Weekly yoga lessons with a different theme/class plan, I like to change the class to keep it interesting and a little bit challenging. I also like to experiments and get a bit of feedback so I know what works and what doesn`t. In the yoga class we might work with a particular group of postures or a specific limitation, for example tight calves, or with a balanced class so we move forwards, backwards etc or the yoga class might have a theme such as Christmas or New Year. The yoga class structure remains the same week to week: to let go of the day we start with supine pranayama then move through warming up movements, the main theme followed by the closing out the asana portion of the class and finally relaxation.

A one to one yoga lesson is an opportunity to get the attention of a yoga teacher all to yourself (because sometimes one class a week isn`t enough) ; this is great if you are nervous of coming into a yoga class without experience, have a specific issue, injury, chronic complaint or want to achieve a specific asana (posture) such as headstand. Be prepared for homework though!

​​Yoga in the workplace classes are designed specifically for your requirements for example if there is limited space chair yoga can be used. I will work with your employees to determine what suits them best depending on their experience and time of day. Bring the benefits of yoga into your workplace and give your employees the opportunity to clear their minds, release stress and the tension that builds up in postural muscles during the day. Yoga in the workplace has been shown to have the following benefits:

  • Increases concentration and focus: yoga practice involves breathing exercises (pranayama), mindfulness and balancing exercises all of which contribute to better concentration and focus. 
  • Reduces physical ailments and sickness: As an exercise yoga contributes to your 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week so may improve health in the workplace and reduce hours lost to muscle related injuries.

Yoga is a great means of preparing yourself mentally and physically for birth.  These classes are also an opportunity to meet other pregnant women and build a community. 
The pace of these classes is slower than my regular classes, the movements and postures done during the class are those that will help with the changes that the body goes through during pregnancy such as pelvic floor strength, pelvic girdle stability and  the general aches and pains caused by changes in posture and weight bearing. I focus on working with the breath in postures,  with pranayama to develop concentration skills and each class incorporates LOTS of relaxation.​

​Historically, spending time in green space and or nature has been taken for granted, but is being gradually eroded within modern society. 
SMYL's new event Secret Yoga intends to give yogis an opportunity to practice in unusual and outdoor environments to reintroduce this connection thereby nourishing the mind and body. Practicing yoga in different places can change the participant's view of yoga and the class environment and can of course be fun!
